Heartbreak in Seconds

Please double and triple check your washer and dryer BEFORE you start your cycles. Cats are fascinated by them.

We recently heard of a breeder that lost a cat in the washer because the lock was on and she wasn't able to get it open. She was devastated!

As for the dryer, you may think you checked with a quick glance, but kittens can burrow below the surface of the laundry. It only takes a few spins, between the hard knocks and the heat, and you've lost your precious companion.

Bath Time

Where cats don't need a bath on a regular basis, there are times they will require one.

By running warm bath water first, and then bringing the cat into the room helps. They do not like the running water from the faucet. It hisses.

Place a warm, wet washcloth over the back. It's soothing. Talk reassuringly throughout the entire process.  Long hair cats will need a quiet hair dryer on low heat and a brushing after towel drying.

Brushes & Combs

Brushes and Combs are really a matter of preference. We use all the above, however my favorite is the metal comb on the bottom right.

Nail Trimming

Overgrown nails can grow into your cat’s paw pad, causing pain and infections. Long nails can get caught in porous fabrics, tearing the mail off.  Trimming also protects you and your furniture.

We trim from the time kittens are tiny. If you continue the practice, you should have no difficulty doing it yourself. If you don't, you may have to take your cuddle buddy to the vet.

To settle them, Laura’s trick is to tap them on the nose when they start to wiggle. She counts as she cuts each nail.

The First Vet Visit

Kitty's first vet visit

The Vet Tech

The trip to the vet is the first outing our kittens have. It is a very exciting day. New sights, smells, people, and what's this? I'm a pin coushin?!

The Vet Tech is the first to see the kittens. All information about the kittens has previously been sent over to the office personnel: date of birth, gender, description and color of each kitten.

The Vet tech weighs each kitten, takes its temperature, and listens to its heart and lungs. The tech will also ask if there is anything we have noticed that needs the vet's attention.

The Vet's Attention

The Vet does a thorough examination of each kitten. Once the exam is complete, they are given their first immunizations, de-wormer, and are microchipped.

We start our immunizations at 3# and at least 8 weeks of age. This allows the kittens additional time to grow in size and build more antibodies from their mama. By waiting those two weeks, we have had better results in the kittens' health. Kittens are just like human babies in so many ways. Running a fever after an immunization is just another likeness.

All our cats/kittens receive every age appropriate wellness check along with immunizations they are able to receive, including feline leukemia. We want them going to their new homes protected. We could do this ourselves, but we choose to have the vet do this for the assurance of fresh vaccines and consumer confidence that the kittens are getting the very best in health care.

We highly encourage pet owners to keep their pets inside and to continue to immunize their cats, even if they are indoor cats. It only takes one escape to have a heart wrenching illness strike.

Socialization is Key to making a Good Household Pet

TECHNOLOGY IS A PART OF REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH

Technology is vital to a healthy Cattery

    ULTRASOUNDS ARE EXCITING!

ON THIS DAY WE FOUND OUT HOW MANY KITTIES EIRA WAS GOING TO HAVE..

    EXERCISE AND STIMULATING TOYS/ACTIVITIES...

...are key to keeping cats happy and out of trouble!

The wheel featured here is called a Ferris Wheel and can be purchased through Ziggydo.com. It's super sturdy and we honestly, with six, don't have enough. All the cats want to use the wheel,

We also purchase toddler toys for our Bengals. Harien knows how to push the buttons on his police and race cars to make them work. He has a toddler toy that plays music, flashes lights and throws balls. Bright lights and "woo-woos" are great!

Water Play...another fun and stimulating activity!

Kitties with a Sink, Drinking Fountain, Bathtub, Baby Pool, anything WATER! ..Makes for GREAT ENTERTAINMENT!
